Installation for Performance "Gardening" (Elastic work 2)
collaboration with Lyndsey Housden

Performer : Pedro Gomes, Yolanda Uriz, Jan Misker
(duration 15 min)

This work is a research project in collaboration with my artscience colleague Lyndsey Housden since December 2008. We research flexible materials which create the certain structure in a moment and the structure itself transfers by humans action or even by small change of the space condition. That causes organic structures sentimentally.

When we worked with many different kinds of fabrics, we found the potential of simple elastics. The lines of elastics fill the space and the stretch extent the occupation of space. In addition, by connecting the elastics, the structure extent the scale more and more in the space. Although the whole structure is released in one moment because of linear connection of the elastics.

Through this research, creating sceneries of sentient structures by pure materials, we found in those activities of making momental structure by elastics, there is similar idea to psychological "gardening".

"Select several places within the property according to the shape of the land and the ponds, and create a subtle atmosphere, reflecting again and again on one`s memories of wild nature."
