YOKO SEYAMA / Art & Scenography

I have worked on the design of set and light, costume, and video for the project New Media Pocket Opera the piece "garden of dream". There are angled big screens which showed 3D live painting drawing and video images which are synchronizing with performers movements, also pattern animations are shown as creating atmosphere in the space as similar effect as light. Those were being processed live. Also there are light funnels inspired from my work "stage 1", in which performers and their instruments stayed.

The project " NMPO / New Media Pocket Opera " is a practice-based exploration of new interactive audio-visual technologies for opera and music-theatre, investigating the dramaturgical implications of combining the real and virtual within music-based theatre. The project uses live performance, voice-synthesizing and real-time sound and images projection to examine the phenomenon of technologically driven story telling, investigating new methods and means offered by specially developed new performance interfaces / instruments.
The project is part of a collaboration between the STEIM Centre in Amsterdam, the Centre for Research in Opera and Music Theatre at the University of Sussex (CROMT) , Forum Neues Musiktheater of Stuttgart Opera and Tempo Reale Studio in Florence, with each centre initially contributing a new piece of work made to the same brief but employing different technologies or programs.

July 21 2006, Forum Neues Musiktheater, Stuttgart, Germany
